Talisay Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

If I come to think of Talisay yesterday to the present, was a miracle. The old Talisay is dominated by native negritos. In 1849, a group of recollect Missionaries led by Fr. Fernando Cuenca arrived in Negros. Fr. Cuenca visited the settlement of Minuluan, the former name of Talisay and started to organize the native populace for the development of the settlement into a town. On September 20, 1850, the town’s original name was changed Talisay because of Talisay which used to grow in abundance in the area.

Today, Talisay is a growing City. Being a newly converted City last February 11, 1998 it has already two major real estate developers such as Ayala Land. Inc. which has proposed development area of 166 hectares both commercial and residential and the Active Group Inc., with a proposed development area of 67 hectares of commercial and residential development. It is considered to be the center of education in the Northern part of Negros and known for its Cut-flower Plantation and First Farmers Sugar Central producing sweetest white sugar all over the Philippines.

With this kind of development, the future of the City of Talisay is very promising. It is being programmed to be the future Makati City with high rising sophisticated commercial buildings, good entertainment and to be an excellent educational center in Negros Occidental. Seeing Talisay yesterday is just only a nightmare, dreaming Talisay what could it be tomorrow is now becoming a reality.
