About

Often called as “Mayor Doc” or “Doc Eric”, Dr. Eric M. Saratan is a compassionate doctor and well-loved Mayor who brought the City to the national limelight with three regional and national hall of fame awards, a most child-friendly city award and dozens more of citations and recognitions for effective governance and outstanding programs in delivery of social and health services.

He came from a middle class family of nine siblings. He finished his primary education at Talisay Elementary School and secondary education at the then University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos de Talisay. After which, he went to West Visayas University in Iloilo City to take Bachelor of Arts and proceeded to study Medicine in the same University.

While in medical practice, he answered the call to serve his fellow Talisaynons, ran as a Sangguniang Panlungsod Member and was elected as the number one councilor in the 1998 elections. He then ran as the Vice Mayor of former Mayor Anthony “Ton” Lizares and won in the 2001 elections. When the Mayor Lizares passed away in 2006, Doc Eric succeeded him and took on the challenge of leading the City.

Married to Sheila Yap-Saratan, they are blessed with their only child, Yani.

  • Authored and sponsored City Ordinance No. 163 known as the “New Anti-Rabies Ordinance of Talisay City”, which aimed to eradicate rabies infection from stray dogs through eradication and vaccination of all canines
  • Sponsored resolutions to provide PhilHealth insurance to 5,629 indigent families, the biggest number of PhilHealth coverage in the whole Philippines.
  • Sponsored resolutions to improve the delivery of basic health services in the City as well as in the far-flung barangays
