The Ruins. The latest pride of the City is the restoration of what was left of the Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson Ancestral House. The majestic city of the mansion’s concrete structure, unfazed even after a three-day fire during the Japanese Occupation, is undeniable and you can almost feel and see history when you enter the imposing 903 square meter skeletal structure that wows local and foreign visitors alike. It has a restaurant which offers sumptous dishes and the vast and extensive garden surrounding the structure also has become a famous venue for wedding celebrations, receptions, and pictorials.
Balay ni Tana Dicang (House of Tana Dicang). Located in the city’s Rizal Street is the ancestral house of Efigenio Treyes Lizares and Enrica Labayen Alunan which is said to be built in 1883. The house is named after the matriarch of of the Alunan-Lizares Clan. The “bahay na bato” (house of stone) has been converted to a museum, becoming part of the must-see heritage sites in the province. The Balay exhibits artwork by local contemporary artists marking the position of Negrenses in the world of arts. Chorales perform in the Balay’s zaguan; social events are held in the front garden of the Balay.
